Heins shows his versatility, Donatelli traded to Montreal
A number of former Barons are performing well in their "summer jobs." Ryan Heins (Temple / Medford, NJ) and Brian Devlin (Penn State / Phila, PA) are helping the Harrisburg City Islanders on a run of good form. Meanwhile, for the second year in a row, Matt Nelson (Lynn Univ. / Tampa, FL) has guided a USL Second Division team to the Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup quarterfinals. Tony Donatelli (Temple / Glenside, PA), in his third year with the first place Vancouver Whitecaps, was traded this past week to their Quebec-based rival, the Montreal Impact.

Former Ocean City Baron Tony Donatelli (Temple / Glenside, PA) helped the Vancouver Whitecaps defeat David Beckham and the Los Angeles Galaxy 2-1 on Tuesday night. The exhibition game was played in front of 37,104 fans at Commonwealth Stadium in Edmonton, Alberta and was the second year in a row the two clubs have met in a friendly. Last year, the two clubs played to a scoreless draw in front of over 48,000 fans in Vancouver’s BC Place.
Donatelli, who played two seasons with the Ocean City Barons, started the match and played the first half as the Whitecaps were tied 1-1 at the break. One of Vancouver’s off-season signings Nicholas Addlery scored his first goal for the club four minutes into the match. Former Portland Timbers player Alan Gordon would answer for the Galaxy by scoring an equalizer off an assist by David Beckham just before halftime.

MISL in full swing, O'Neill signs with NJ, White injured
The Major Indoor Soccer League, where nine former Barons earn their living, is in full swing and near the midway point of the 2007/08 season.
That number became nine when Tim O’Neill (St. John’s / Philadelphia, PA), recently signed with the New Jersey Ironmen. He joins Matt Maher (Temple / Cape May, NJ) and recent draftee (#3 overall) Jeremy Ortiz (LaSalle / Mt. Laurel, NJ) with the Newark-based expansion team.

For the third year in a row, a former Baron was selected in the Major Indoor Soccer League’s College Draft. This year, Jeremy Ortiz (LaSalle / Mt. Laurel, NJ) was taken with the third overall selection in the opening round by the New Jersey Ironmen. He joins former Barons teammate Matt Maher (Temple / Cape May, NJ), who was chosen in the first round of last year’s draft, on the expansion team’s roster.
Jeremy’s seasons in Ocean City were two of the most productive in club history. In 2006, he was named the Barons MVP after he led the team with eight goals and two assists (18 points) in 15 matches. For an encore in 2007, he duplicated those statistics and was a finalist for the MVP award. His 16 goals in 30 matches are the third highest career total in Barons history, and his 36 points are ranked fourth on the all-time list.
White called into camp again
Bob Bradley preparing the U.S. National Team for another "friendly" with Mexico on Feb. 6 in Houston
After earning his first cap for the U.S. National Team in a 2-0 win over Sweden on January 19, Jeremiah White will get another chance to prove himself. This time, the stakes are higher. Every national team call-up is important for a player, but there’s something special about a U.S. camp that will prepare the team for a match against Mexico.

"I’m not as nervous this time around," said White. "I felt the first camp went well, so I’m just doing my best to step it up a level for this next camp."
National team boss Bob Bradley has invited Jeremiah White and 20 other players to the Home Depot Center in Carson, CA to prepare for the February 6 match in Houston against their arch rivals. White made his first appearance for the senior team when he came off the bench in the 81st minute to replace Landon Donovan in the United States’ victory over Sweden.
First Baron to earn U.S. cap
White comes on as a sub in U.S. win vs. Sweden
In the 81st minute of the United States’ friendly against Sweden, the fourth official lifted his substitution board to reveal a green number 23. That number belonged to Jeremiah White (Wake Forest / Lansdowne, PA), as he entered the match to replace the USA’s newly-crowned all-time leading goalscorer, Landon Donovan. White, who was called into the national team’s camp due to his impressive play with his Danish Superliga club AGF Aarhus, is the first former Baron make an appearance for the U.S. National Team. White played for the Barons in the 2003 season, scoring six goals in nine matches that year.
The United States earned a 2-0 win over Sweden in a match played at the Home Depot Center in Carson, CA. Eddie Robinson (Houston Dynamo) celebrated his first cap with his first international goal in the 15th minute. Donovan later converted a penalty kick in the 48th to become the all-time goalscoring leader in U.S. history.
