It opened as a pizzeria and small trattoria in 1988 and flourished quickly to expand into a full service gourmet restaurant. Chef and owner Joe Massaglia credits his immediate and continuing success to an "experimental attitude" towards food that parlays in both a restaurant and a catering businesses.
"We are always experimenting and creating in the kitchen. We cook from our hearts," says Chef Massaglia.
Massaglia was born and raised in western Italy, just outside of Torino where his family owned a restaurant. So it’s easy to see where his passion for food comes from. He continued to learn through traveling and working on tourist boats, in particular, the love boat in 1970 where he met his wife. He decided to come to the United States to spend more time with her in 1975 and started his culinary journey in Philadelphia. Chef Massaglia has an extensive resume that includes working at the Golden Nugget and also with the Trump Administration for five years.
In the midst of his busy life Chef Massaglia has committed to giving back to his community and sharing his culinary education. He has participated in numerous food demonstrations, in particular, the demonstration held at the Reading Terminal Market in Philadelphia where he demonstrated cooking techniques on his Olare Cooking Stone.

He started his own event called the Food and Music data to raise money for upper township schools. The event took place at the Flanders Hotel where he was able to raise more than $15,000. In addition, he is part of the Chefs with American Heart Association. They will be holding the "Chefs with Hearts" event in northern New Jersey on June 5. Last, but certainly not least, Joe is the vice president of the South Jersey Epicurean Society which is an American culinary federation that helps with scholarships for college. Naturally, Chef Massaglia is huge soccer fan, stemming back to his childhood when he was taking a soccer ball to and from school everyday. He has established a valued friendship with the Ocean City Barons and has showed his support over the years.
