Boyle named to PDL Team of Week
Barons' playmaker honored for second time this year
Barons’ midfielder Sean Boyle was honored by the United Soccer Leagues this week as he was named to the Premier Development League (PDL) Team of the Week. Last Saturday, the Ireland native who plays his college ball at Limestone College in South Carolina, assisted on two of the Barons’ goals in a 4-0 road win over the Northern Virginia Royals. Boyle is currently tied for second in the PDL with five assists, and is on pace to break the Barons’ single-season assists record of nine, set by Ruben Mingo during the 2004 campaign. While it didn’t factor into the decision to name him to the Team of the Week, he also assisted on Byron Carmichael’s game-winning goal against Crystal Palace Baltimore in the first round of the U.S. Open Cup on June 12.
This is the second time that Boyle has been named to the Team of the Week. He made the list in week six when he scored on a free kick against Reading, and then assisted on the game-winning goal against Richmond to send the Barons into the Open Cup.
The Barons will hope to continue the momentum from their victory in the U.S. Open Cup on Tuesday into this Saturday’s league match against the West Virginia Chaos. The Barons are currently in first place in the Mid-Atlantic Division with an unbeaten 5-0-1 record. Kickoff is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. at Carey Stadium. Fans not able to attend the game in person can listen to a live audio broadcast through the Barons’ website at www.ocbarons.com.
